Harbormaster services
Here are the services provided by the Harbormaster during normal operating hours… (See QHRRP 6000-245 (Lock Operating Hours)).

  1. Locking operation
  2. Holding tank pump out
  3. Pollution control
  4. Weather information
  5. Ice supply at lock
  6. Emergency telephone
  7. Heavy weather assistance, advice, and preparation of the Lagoon System in the case of heavy weather.

Note:  From time to time, the lock and channel will require closing for maintenance.  Notification will be provided by the Harbormaster’s office.  Notice will also be promulgated via email or text.

Collisions, accidents and sinking
Queen’s Harbour and its contract employees are not responsible or liable for damages or injuries to persons or property in connection with collisions, accidents, or sinking within the Lagoon System, lock, or the approach channel.  Federal and State Laws govern the reporting of boating accidents.  Owners must provide their own insurance to cover these eventualities.

In the event of a vessel sinking within the Queen’s Harbour lagoon, the owner of the vessel or person who discovers the sunken vessel shall immediately notify in order of priority…

The Harbormaster shall have overall supervision of salvage operations and will coordinate the refloating and removal of the vessel from Queen’s Harbour by a qualified vessel salvage contractor.

The Harbormaster and his staff will endeavor to assist any boater involved in an emergency situation.

Individual vessel owners are responsible for damage to other boats and to QHYCC property resulting from accidents, negligence, misuse, or vandalism.  See QHRRP 3000-085 (Insurance Coverage).

First aid
A First Aid Kit is available at the Harbormaster’s Office; however, in the case of an emergency, Queen’s Harbor Controlled Access MUST be notified.
Manatee protection
The channel leading to the Lagoon from the Intracoastal Waterway is often inhabited by manatees. It is a condition of obtaining the permits that owners and operators of watercraft be advised that there are civil and criminal penalties for harming, harassing, or killing manatees.  Owners and operators shall hold Queen’s Harbor harmless from any and all costs in connection therewith.
Tides and currents
Within the Lagoon, there are no tides.  Outside the lock and in the approach channel, the tide averages five feet.  There are no currents inside the Lagoon. However, there is a strong current that runs past the entrance of the approach channel.     
Unwanted materials
Property owners are responsible to remove grass clippings, construction debris, silt and any other unwanted materials that have accumulated around docks, bulkheads and/or pilings. The property owner is responsible for any damage to docks, bulkheads and/or pilings.
